We got back on track with a show that has been a long time coming. Luis travelled to the NYC to interview the wordsmith Tim Hicks from the bangin’ Cornel West Theory. This crew originated from DC so we decided to highlight those artists which Tim put us up on during this interview. We learned quite a bit about the DC scene and are proud to further expose the Hiphop coming out East including bangers from N’digo Rose, Asheru, Oddisee, Diamond District, Kenilworth Katrina and our good homie Prowess the Testament! We back on it! Six in the Morning Show brings you a special one. The West Coast Revival Episode 47!

 

We highlight the collective work of artists who are on the come up and also veterans in the game. In short, we have a diverse sound in order to ask, has the West Coast ever gone away? We think not! Dont' sleep.

 

We are joined by our good friend Matthew T. from the Long Beach Coffee Club and the HipHop nerd, I mean, know it all, Jason G. We spend time not only chatting on the music, but on coffee (peace to Tupac Amaru!), Snoop Dogg, HipHop multiple choice and word associations!

Through the generosity of Bard College MAT program, Six In The Morning brings you our third classroom-based installment of interviews. We delve into personal conversations with current Bard students MA students on Art, Activism + Teaching.  Trust us, these interviews will make you feel that our schools’ futures are in good hands.

 

Of course we bring you new heat from Kung Fu Kenny himself, Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Talib Kweli + Styles P and the beautiful sounds of Kamasi Washington. We also go way back with Dianna Ross, The Clash …. And Stephen Sondheim?? Eclectic??

Episode 45: 2017 Hip Hop First Quarter Review

What quarter is it? I said what quarter is it? nope not the Fourth- it's only the First Quarter of 2017 and we had to round up the best of Hip Hop so far y'all! 

 

We keeping it light given the last two heavy orangy icky episodes but heavy on the funk and the heat. 

 

We have cuts from Westside Gunn, Dj Green Lantern, Diamond D, O.C. , Nick Grant and Bj the Chicago Kid, Goldlink, Kendrick and Thundercat, Your Old Droog, Flatbush Zombies just to name a few. We even reminisce on Sean P and even remix a remix of Snow Da Product.

 

We heavy on the music, light on the politics and hope still banging.  

 

 

Episode 44: The Circus Episode

 

The political sideshow continues with Prez Trumpy + his posse!! Why stop talking about this circus?!?! We are living in unprecedented times so we thought it was appropriate to juggle this political convo some more!! We again needed some help so we have the ringmaster himself, Dr. Stephen Mucher from Bard College on board as the 3rd M.I.C.!! We go back-and-forth on several important topics including our Nation's patriotism, walls, and $$$ with our usual silliness to boot! We play dope cuts by Body Count (peace Ice T!!!), Everlast, Brother Ali, Homeboy Sandman, Oddisee, Apollo Brown and a dope cut from the Hamilton play mixtape! Let us be your lion tamers on this one cuz we dealing with our mad American Circus on this Episode!

Episode 43: The Aftermath

 

As the dust clears and the light begins to shed on the American landscape- we shake the dust off and bring you our mostest bigly and tremendous episode – The Aftermath. It has been a whirlwind of 140 characters madness, alternative facts and a parade of irrational cabinet picks, so what better way to vent than on the show. From the great big red state of Texas- JC takes some time off from being a “professor” at the Univ of Texas-Austin (@jaycee43public ) and joins us once again to console us, enlighten us and share his collection of aliases for He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned.

 

Of course, we bring you some dope Hip Hop curated just for this Ep. So sit back, go through the cycle of emotions with us, play the He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned Drinking game and try to stay away from “danger!” while we figure out what’s next.

Episode 42: That's A Rap 2016

 

2016 was a mofkr wasn’t it? But you know what, 2016 proved to be another solid year for Hip Hop. We had album after album of heat from the old timers (like us) making a comeback– De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, The Game (well he never really left right?), Common, and Atmosphere.  The lyricists - Kendrick, Ka, Aesop Rock, ElZhi, Homeboy Sandman, and Skyzoo just to name a few. The freshman and the sophomores killed it too Vic Mensa, Domo Genesis, Flat Bush Zombies, Hodgy Beats, Isaiah Rashad, and of course Chance the Rapper. But let us forget not those that make us bob our heads, the Producers- Kaytranada, Knxwledge, L’Orange, Neon Brown, and Apollo Brown (and many more)

 

But in our humble opinion, the year belonged to one man- grinding for years and now getting his shine- Anderson .Paak  !

 

We took a minute but we back- so sit back, enjoy and reminisce on 2016 cuz it’s a Rap!
