The Grub Episode with De La Luna Catering: Yo! You know we love us some food here at Six in the Morning! What better way to learn more about the culinary world than inviting an actual chef! Erik from De La Luna Catering blessed us with knowledge of all things mushrooms, vegan grub, and generally other good food options….oh, and music! We hope you enjoy the convo. Of course we hit you off with food related music entrees including usual suspects, Homeboy Sandman, Action Bronson, and Ras Kass. We hear some turkey tacos with Terrace Martin, some otha fish with the Pharcyde and last donuts with J Dilla. We also share with you delicacies from Lute, 5 Chuckles, Killa Kali, and Big KRIT. We got back on track with a show that has been a long time coming. Luis travelled to the NYC to interview the wordsmith Tim Hicks from the bangin’ Cornel West Theory. This crew originated from DC so we decided to highlight those artists which Tim put us up on during this interview. We learned quite a bit about the DC scene and are proud to further expose the Hiphop coming out East including bangers from N’digo Rose, Asheru, Oddisee, Diamond District, Kenilworth Katrina and our good homie Prowess the Testament! The Lice is in the house aka Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman along with the Puerto-Irish wonder Wiki. We highlight the impressive work of The Faze who does crazy justice to GZA’s Liquid Swords. We back on it! Six in the Morning Show brings you a special one. The West Coast Revival Episode 47!
 
We highlight the collective work of artists who are on the come up and also veterans in the game. In short, we have a diverse sound in order to ask, has the West Coast ever gone away? We think not! Dont' sleep.
 
We are joined by our good friend Matthew T. from the Long Beach Coffee Club and the HipHop nerd, I mean, know it all, Jason G. We spend time not only chatting on the music, but on coffee (peace to Tupac Amaru!), Snoop Dogg, HipHop multiple choice and word associations!

We delve into personal conversations with current Bard students MA students on Art, Activism + Teaching.  Trust us, these interviews will make you feel that our schools’ futures are in good hands.
 
Of course we bring you new heat from Kung Fu Kenny himself, Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Talib Kweli + Styles P and the beautiful sounds of Kamasi Washington. We also go way back with Dianna Ross, The Clash …. And Stephen Sondheim?? Eclectic??

Episode 45: 2017 Hip Hop First Quarter Review

What quarter is it? I said what quarter is it? nope not the Fourth- it's only the First Quarter of 2017 and we had to round up the best of Hip Hop so far y'all! 
 
We keeping it light given the last two heavy orangy icky episodes but heavy on the funk and the heat. 
 
We have cuts from Westside Gunn, Dj Green Lantern, Diamond D, O.C. , Nick Grant and Bj the Chicago Kid, Goldlink, Kendrick and Thundercat, Your Old Droog, Flatbush Zombies just to name a few. We even reminisce on Sean P and even remix a remix of Snow Da Product.
 
We heavy on the music, light on the politics and hope still banging.

The political sideshow continues with Prez Trumpy + his posse!! Why stop talking about this circus?!?! We are living in unprecedented times so we thought it was appropriate to juggle this political convo some more!! We again needed some help so we have the ringmaster himself, Dr. Stephen Mucher from Bard College on board as the 3rd M.I.C.!! We go back-and-forth on several important topics including our Nation's patriotism, walls, and $$$ with our usual silliness to boot! We play dope cuts by Body Count (peace Ice T!!!), Everlast, Brother Ali, Homeboy Sandman, Oddisee, Apollo Brown and a dope cut from the Hamilton play mixtape!
